Seeds wait for rain like spiders wait
for moths like leaves wait for the light
like I wait for the tablets to have some effect.
The world is stopped: no trade, no freight,
no movements of goods through the night;
the excisemen play chess: there’s nothing to inspect.
The lights don’t change; truck tyres deflate;
and nothing’s heard or comes in sight;
no phones ring, no one writes, no single thoughts connect.
Seeds wait for rain like spiders wait
for moths like leaves wait for the light
like I wait for the tablets and some new effect.
